Types of Funds

Individuals, corporations, special interest groups and chariites are encouraged to make donations to various funds for the Hunter Community Foundation in a number of ways:

Unrestricted/Discretionary Fund -

An unrestricted or discretionary fund is able to be used by the Hunter Community Foundation to make grants for charitable purposes to meet the needs of the community. These gifts can be short or longer term.

An unrestricted or discretionary gift enables the Hunter Community Foundation to be most responsive to the changing needs of the community.

Named Fund -

A donor can make a contribution to a specially Named Fund in their own name, dedicated and named for a specific purpose or named in honour of another individual.

Named Funds can also be dedicated by families, friends or organisations as a memorial to someone who has died, but whom they wish to honour.

Named Funds can be started with as little as $50 and be added to over time. They can be publically recognised or remain discreet and anonymous, according to the wishes of donors.

When a Named Fund is started, a representative of those initiating that fund  works with foundation directors on its administration to ensure the wishes of the donors are carried out.

Donor Preference Fund -

Donors, including those with a named donation, may indicate a particular type of eligible charity or a particular type of group: for example, Health, Education, Heritage, Environment or Arts and Culture to benefit from the donation.

Non-Tax Deductible Gift -

Donors, particularly those considering a bequest or support via corporate sponsorship, are able to give to the Hunter Community Foundation for charitable purposes. These funds may be used by the Hunter Community Foundation to make grants to charities which do not have Deductible Gift Recipient status or used to carry out charitable projects. Corporate partners, sponsors or government grants are also included in this form of gift.
