Bequests

Bequests are an important and special way an individual can support the Hunter Community Foundation. Perhaps you've wanted to make sure your family name lives on or that of a loved one is remembered for years to come, or perhaps you want to assist your community in a special way.

The Hunter Community Foundation offers an ideal way for you to leave a bequest in your Will to recognise your wishes and to be carefully managed to benefit your community.  A bequest to the Hunter Communtiy Foundation may also associate your name with the community you lived in and loved.

There are a number of different ways in which you can leave a bequest, no matter what the size, to the Hunter Community Foundation. You can also leave specific assets, such as securities, an interest in real estate (such as a residence), or tangible personal property (e.g. works of art, antiques, stamps, coins etc.) to the Hunter Community Foundation.

Examples of Bequests:

A specific bequest – this type of bequest allows for a specific or fixed amount of your estate to be left to the Foundation in your Will.

A percentage bequest – this type of bequest allows for a proportion of your estate to be left to the Foundation in your Will.

A bequest of shares or property – these types of bequest are exempt from Capital Gains Tax and allow you to leave these items to the Foundation in your Will.

A residuary bequest – this type of bequest provides for the Foundation to receive the remainder of your estate when all other bequests to family and friends have been granted in your Will.

A reversionary bequest – allows a surviving partner to benefit from your estate during his or her lifetime and then for the balance of the estate to be left to the Foundation when the surviving beneficiary has also died.

These examples provide a brief overview of the types of bequests that can be given to the Foundation. As each individual's financial and family situations are different and unique, we recommend you discuss your Will options with your solicitor, accountant or professional advisor to determine the best option for when you are leaving a bequest to the Hunter Community Foundation.
