Dr. Robert Sillar (OAM)

Bob is a highly respected General Surgeon. He has senior surgical appointments to the John Hunter and Calvary Mater hospitals and has been Chair of the medical boards of several private hospitals in the area. He was co-founder and past Director of the Newcastle Melanoma Unit and Newcastle Breast Centre. Over the past decade Bob has led many humanitarian surgical teams to both East and West Timor.

Amongst those who work with him both clinically and organisationally, Bob is renowned for his common sense, his ability to clarify problems, and his skilled handling of difficult issues.

Bob was born in Kurri Kurri, and has spent most of his medical career in Newcastle. He has seen many of the problems encountered in community-based charitable activities. He believes the Hunter Community Foundation is an excellent initiative to maximise the effectiveness of local philanthropy.
