The Hunter Community Foundation (Foundation), established in September 2006, is governed by a Board of high profile, highly astute business and community members who are committed to delivering real and lasting outcomes to the Hunter community.

The Foundation attracts tax-deductible donations to a public fund and builds a capital base of money that is invested in perpetuity.  This provides a permanent and growing source of funding with the income earned each year being returned to the Hunter community as annual grants.  In addition, through the charitable company or trust, the Foundation provides support to wider charitable purposes across the broader Hunter community.  This is achieved by facilitating Company’s who choose to invest annually in projects for their local communities.

Unlike a one-off charitable donation, donations or bequests from the public to the Foundation can be in the form of money, shares or real property collections as some examples.  Funds may be pooled and invested and the income generated from this investment used over time to help build the social capital of the Hunter Region.  Other funds that are generated through the Foundation may be spent entirely on supporting one particular program or in named fund initiatives for specific projects.
